Dental hygienists are specially trained to work with the dentist giving "best practice" to patient's oral health.What is the Hygienist's role in the practice?
The hygienists main role is to professionally clean the teeth of the patient. This is usually called scaling and polishing. They show the patient the best way to keep the teeth free from plaque. Donal
Donal is happily married to Helen with two sons, Peter and Andrew. He is a very keen fisherman but often comes home disappointed with the one that got away! He also enjoys basketball and a touch of Golf.
Professionally Donal owns two practices; 261 Dental Care in Castle Bromwich and The Whitehouse Dental. Don also worked at Birmingham Dental Hospital as a clinical lecturer which came to an end in 2009 opening his second practice.
In the holidays Don encourages Dental students to work in his practices providing valuable insight into the busy world of Dentistry.
Helen Robertson
Married to Don for 25 years Helen is very energetic in everything she does. Helen treats patients as though they are family and friends making the surgery an extension of her home; by doing this Helen hopes patients are as comfortable as possible every time they visit.
Helen enjoys swimming and spending time with her two children and dog, Smudge.
Dr Hayley Taylor
Hayley is the newest member of the team. After qualifying from The University of Leeds she has worked in numerous regions across Birmingham.
Hayley is a keen sports woman and enjoys playing both tennis and netball in her spare time.
Hayley enjoy practicing all aspects of dentistry and getting to know all the patients she treats.

Jane Clark works at Whitehouse dental on a Monday afternoon .
She has a loyal and dedicated following and her patients really enjoy her lovely manner and relaxed style in which she delivers first class dentistry.
Kay
Kay is the part-time receptionist at the practice. Kay is 37, happily married with two children. She enjoys keeping fit and taking her dog, Smithy for walks in the park.
Sarah Fleming-Smith
Sarah is a qualified Practice Nurse and loves what she does. She enjoys listening to music, going to see live bands and attending festivals.
Mrs Kim Dalley
Kim qualified as a dental nurse and now works permanently at 261 as our receptionist. Having been part of the team for 27 years, Kim is very efficient and being a dental nurse, has excellent knowledge and skills to explain treatment planning and appointments.
Sharon Coughlan
Sharon has been with us for 7 years. Sharon has a sunny, bubbly personality and can often be heard singing away in the sterilisation room. A very capable nurse who is very good at putting nervous patients at ease.
Moira Ball DSA
Moira is a qualified dental nurse and is also qualified as a therapist and reflextologist. Part of the team for 10 years she helps patients relax by indian head massage and all methods of relaxation. Focussing on back, neck, shoulders and joints.
Sarah Hadley
Sarah has excellent clinical skills and an exceptional chair side manner with patients. She has been with us for 3 years and we are proud to have her as part of our family.
Charlotte Ashburn
Charlotte will qualify very early next year. She is an amazing asset to our dental family and we feel very privileged that she has come to us for her dental nurse training.
Peter Robertson
Studying law at Cardiff university Peter works on reception to "earn his keep". He was educated at King Edward Aston school and is polite to our patients and brings an intelligent conversation to our waiting room!
Ann Spittle - Hygienist
Ann and Colette are our wonderful hygienists. Ann has been with us the longest, 30 years in total. Together Ann and Colette attend to all our patients needs. Hygienists are very thorough professionals who work very closely with the dentists to ensure that patents achieve total dental health and fitness.

The First Appointment

We know joining a new practice, like starting anything new in life can make you anxious in what to expect. It will take just 30 minutes. We like to get to know our patients providing answers to any question asked. The aim of the first appointment is to give you a full understanding of our practice and service.
As a new patient you will be asked to complete a full medical history and if you have any concerns during this process, please do not hesitate to speak to the team who will be happy to assist you.
Once the medical history is out the way you will be taken through what we call the 12-point check.
One of our four Dentists will carry out the following checks:
- The general health of the mouth
- Any problems you are concerned about
- Progressions since your last visit (Dr. will refer to notes and discuss relevant issues)
- Discuss medical conditions and advise patients that some conditions and medicines can affect the health of teeth and gums.
- Ask you about your feelings towards the appearance of your teeth and gums.
- Teeth Checked for general health.
- Restoration Existing dental work is checked.
- Gums Health check
- Plaque Examining the periodontal area and a bleeding index will be taken.
- InsideMouth Health of tongue, cheeks, palate and floor of mouth.
- Outside of mouth Health of lips and glands.
- Jaw Health check
Following your examination you will be informed of the health of your teeth, gums and mouth. Advice will be given and a treatment plan advising how you can improve and maintain excellent oral health.
During your first appointment you may require an X-Ray, which will incur a small fee of £10.00.

The Whitehouse Dental Practice is one of two practices owned by Dr. Donal Ian Robertson BDS MFGDP.
We have four dentists; Dr Donal Robertson, Dr Jane Clark, Dr Richard Mountford and Dr Hayley Taylor.
We provide high-quality treatment in a friendly environment. We are committed to continuing dental education and keep abreast of the changes in modern dentistry.
We encourage preventive techniques helping you to understand how to maintain the health of your mouth and keep it free of tooth decay and gum disease. We are therefore delighted to offer our Dental Care Plan our own private membership scheme, which enables us to provide you with the treatment and support necessary to control dental disease and restore your mouth back to full health.

Price Freeze for the Fourth Year Running!
We are happy to help nervous patients conquer their fears of the dentist. We have tea and coffee mornings on Wednesdays and Fridays for those patients who would like to familiarise themselves with the dental practice and learn before booking an appointment.
Please feel free to take as much time and ask as many questions as you want to our team.
We are all very well trained in helping and will whole heartedly listen to all your concerns. All our Dentists have had many years experience in understanding nervous patients and are very sympathetic and reassuring. We endeavour to make your visit with us as relaxing as possible. I-Pods and Television on the ceiling can be useful distraction.
New Patient Checkup £29.95 (approximately 1/2 hour)
The first appointment 12-point check includes examination of your jaw, tongue, cheeks, periodontal area and existing restorations. Time is also taken to discuss any concerns you may have regarding your teeth and gums.
Your first visit is important as it gives us the opportunity to get to know you, discuss your dental history and for us to gage your aims.
X-Rays £10.00 each
X-Rays may be taken to be sure of areas under, between and around the teeth and existing dentistry restorations will be checked and discussed.
Routine (6 month) checkup £28.00
The patient checkup includes examination of jaw, tongue, cheeks, periodontal area and existing restorations. Time is also taken to discuss any questions you may have about your teeth and gums.
Hygiene Appointment £38.40 (approximately 20 minutes)
This is a professional clean incorporating the scaling and polishing of teeth, checking gum health and the careful removal of plaque, which contributes towards slowing down the progress of gum disease.

"We aim to make the whole experience of visiting the dentist fun."
We aim to have two fun days per year where your child can visit the dentist with a child-friendly atmosphere. Gone are the chairs and other waiting room objects, they will be replaced by a background of a dental surgery and chair small enough for children to have a go at being a dentist themselves! Dressing up as a dentist, nurse or tooth fairy. Your child will be then called through to the real surgery where Don and his nurse will have a good look at their dentition. Mums and Dads are of course included.
Your children will then go and see our friendly team of dental health professionals who will talk about healthy eating, brushing techniques and dental health.
Included:
Swap their old worn toothbrush for a new age-appropriate one! So don't forget to bring the brush with you.
Tasting good foods and looking at what bad foods can do to teeth.
We hope that the whole experience of being on our child plan at The Whitehouse will give your child the confidence to be happy to come to the dentist every time.
Good habits when your child is young will bring a lifetime of enjoying the benefits of having healthy teeth and gums.
Plenty of notice will be given to when these days happen so you can book early.

He is adorable and named Charlie C. You can find him in Sutton Park at the Elizabeth Svendsen Trust. The donkeys help children with special Needs but also go into Old Peoples homes so the elderly can stroke and meet them, the donkeys even go into their bedrooms!

Your first appointment will be a routine pre-whitening check up with the dentist and the cushioned moulds will be made for the treatments.
You will need to return to have the moulds fitted one week later, and we will guide you on how to apply the solution from home.
Two weeks after this you will need to return for a review to ensure the whitening has been successful, if necessary you will be provided with a stronger solution so that the desired effect is achieved.
